In this edition of our ‘Meet the Team’ series, we’re introducing you to our wonderful Marketing Lead Holly! Though this is your first introduction to her, if you’ve seen much Tell content, you’re probably familiar with her work! Holly is an asset to the team and her creativity and organisation skills are priceless. To learn more about Holly and what she does, check out the responses below from when we talked to her about her role at Tell!

Tell us a bit about your journey into the technical production industry. How did you get to where you are now?
“I’ve always been a creative person, leaning towards drama and art over maths and science, as early as primary school. So, by the time I was leaving secondary school a theatre degree suited me down to the ground. I graduated from Theatre: Writing, Directing and Performing at the University of York in 2020 with a 2:1 BA (Hons).”

“I always expected to go into teaching while applying my creative background to my teaching practices. However, the closer I got to making that a reality, e.g. accepting a place on one of the best PGCE courses on offer. I freaked out that I would no longer have the time or flexibility to continue working creatively on independent projects such as theatre shows and freelance writing. Instead, I decided to do an MA in Drama and Creative Writing in Education as it felt a good middle ground between my passion for education and my yearning to create. I graduated in 2021 with a Distinction with Honours.”

“It was somewhere between these two courses that I came across an advertisement for a social media manager on an alumni page for York Uni which I decided to apply for despite having little experience. I heard back from Tell pretty quickly asking me to come in to chat about a copywriter position that they felt I was better suited to. I came on with Tell as a copywriter for a year or so, learning A LOT about social media strategies all the while, before they invited me to come onboard full time as the Marketing Lead and I genuinely haven’t looked back since!”

What is it that you do with/for Tell and what is your favourite part of the job?
“At Tell I do all things brainstorming ideas and scheduling across our social media and marketing campaigns. I then work closely with our social media team to make sure the plans go forward on time and to a good standard. We literally write blogs, create infographics, and curate Spotify playlists (and more) for a living...its pretty much the dream!”

What personal interests/passions do you have and do they ever intersect with the work you do with Tell?
“I think its pretty obvious by now that I absolutely love all things creative, particularly theatre. Outside of work, I am the producer for the theatre company Sugar. Working with Tell offers ample opportunity to find ways to bring your passion into your work. I absolutely love the work Tell does with their Tell Arts branch where we create original creative content such as theatre and variety shows. We have also worked with arts-based companies such as Kali theatre and various DJs which has been cool to see!”

What is the best piece of advice you have ever received in life?
“Its not necessarily advice but it is a bit of a mantra I live by - “I don’t chase, I attract. What belongs to me will simply find me.”

What mythical creature do you wish existed IRL?
“Vampires...I think it’s a hangover from my Twilight obsession.”

What celebrity lookalike do you get compared to?
“Zoe Deschanel (specifically in Elf)”

There’s never a dull moment with Holly around as her creativity brings joy and excitement to every project she’s involved with. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for her and we’re very fortunate to have her on board team Tell.
