Alex is our Events Operator here at Tell and has been working with us for just over six months. After meeting Tom through the ever-growing network that is the Ravensbourne alumni, Alex was brought on as a freelancer on some vMix shifts with us. Immediately his talent, commitment and potential shone through. Alex was offered a full-time position, giving him the opportunity to diversify his craft and to contribute his specific skill set to our ever-growing team.
Tell us a little bit about your journey into the tech / production industry.
“I realised when I was around 16 that I couldn't go into an industry I didn't enjoy. Media was the only GCSE I got an A in and I'd always enjoyed audiovisual media (which is a fancy way of saying I loved watching TV and YouTube growing up). I learned prioritisation early on - I didn't care for most of my other subjects because if I bossed it at Media I had a chance of getting in the industry. After A-Levels I had an incredible time at uni and graduated with First-Class Honours. Whilst at uni I started news shooting - filming current affairs and breaking news - around London. It taught me so much about filming on location and I've documented history in the making, which is a bit surreal especially given how many people have seen some of my footage!”
What is the best piece of advice you’ve received in life?
“I heard Conan O'Brien's final Tonight Show monologue on YouTube years ago and one line really stuck with me, "Nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get. But if you work really hard and you're kind, amazing things will happen."
Tell us a little bit about your personal/professional development goals and how Tell is helping you to achieve or practice them?
“I've already learned so much in my time at Tell and hope to continue to do so. I'm improving my vMix knowledge every day and gaining experience in a variety of roles across our client productions and virtual/hybrid events, building upon what I learned at uni. My personal project at Tell is expanding our esports arm. I've run three CS:GO showmatch events since joining Tell and can't wait to do more! We're refining our workflow and the feedback from our talent and esports freelancers has been amazing.”
What film do you quote far too often?
“It's not a film but quotes from The Eric Andre Show have made their way into my lexicon, "I don't trust like that" is a great way to summarise a lot of situations.”
What is your favourite meme?
“Tom Scott meme formats are criminally underrated”
Alex is an asset to the Tell team. He is responsive, reliable and extremely knowledgeable, especially when it comes to his passions. His contributions to the team have meant our esports events have progressed to the next level; they’re organised and operated by someone who has personal experience as both a player and a consumer. Alex is a really friendly person who is always up for a chat. Though he’s new to the Tell team, he’s been a really good teacher and is always willing to help. His influence on the company can be noted in many of our latest projects, and we can't wait to see what is in store for the future!
